In this shot, the contrast of the lighting is the main focus. I think the director chose to have half of Anderton's face in the dark because he is hiding his 'bad half' from his coworkers and people in his life. Not only does he do drugs, but he is still not over the loss of his child.
I think having the close up on his face also emphasized not only the lighting but the dirtiness of his face. At his job, we see a very clean cut and professional man. But here, his is dirty, sweaty and hidden in the dark. The close up adds to this contrast of character.
I think the director wanted us to understand that this is another side of him that is not known by the other characters. He makes this clear by putting John in the dark and sneaking around and contrasting his professional life with this life.

My Favorite Movie
My favorite movie is Fern Gully. When I was little, I used to love watching it and seeing all the fairys and pretty colors. But as when I got older and I saw the movie from a more mature standpoint, I loved the magestic and grand scenery and creativity behind each scene. Not only was the story still good, but I was able to appreciate the way it looked as well. Another thing I enjoyed when I watched it was the creative characters throughout the story. I think the best kids stories are ones with characters that kids want to meet or aspire to be. In this movie, there is such a wide variety of charecters which makes the movie interesting and fun to watch.
